Forestry Nursery Specialist – Blenheim, SC

ArborGen’s Tree Nursery in Blenheim, SC has an open position for a Forestry Nursery Specialist. This facility produces 60+ million bare root pine seedlings from seed annually. The Forestry Nursery Specialist is required to perform all the skilled operations at the nursery. He/she is responsible for production goals, product quality and minimizing nursery expenses. A specialist must be reliable, innovative, team-oriented and conscientious with a positive work ethic.

 

 

 

 

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

1. Operate, maintain, modify and calibrate farm tractors, agricultural equipment, conveyors, and strapping machines and other equipment used on the job.

2. Maintain records including but not limited to equipment maintenance, parts inventory, safety inspections, and fuel records.

3. Assist in the operation and maintenance of an automatic irrigation system including pump station, below ground main lines, above ground supply system, and digital controllers.

4. Weld and fabricate metal items.

5. Assist in all phases of weed control, including herbicide application, mechanical control and hand weeding.

6. Assist in all phases of crop nutrition including fertilization recommendations and applications.

7. Wear safety personal protective equipment, maintain facility, and maintain a safe working environment.

8. Supervise labor in various nursery operations.

9. Serve as a team member in group work improvement projects.

10. Work extended hours, weekends and holidays, outdoors in all types of weather conditions as required.

11. Participate in and complete required safety training.

12. Other duties and projects as assigned.

    • Department: Daily interaction with Supervisor (Production Coordinator and or Nursery Manager). Frequent interaction with peers in the immediate work group.
    • Company: Interaction with peers in other nursery and orchard groups across the company as related to seedling production targets.
    • Outside Company: May participate in outside conferences and symposia when appropriate.

     

     

      • Experience in construction, welding, metal fabrication, and equipment maintenance.
      • Ability to be innovative and be resourceful to accomplish goals.
      • Basic math, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
      • Associate Degree in Agriculture or Horticulture, OR 5+ years’ experience operating and maintaining agricultural equipment in lieu of education preferred.
      • Good human relations skills to serve as a team member and a team leader.

       

       

       

      Physical Requirements:

      This is heavy work exerting up to 40-100 pounds of force; work may involve climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping; worker is subject to inside and outside environment, noise, vibration, working hazards, fumes, odors, dust, gasses and chemicals; visual acuity is required for experiments; requires hearing sufficient to perceive noises for diagnostic purposes. This can be inside or outside work or working in hot, humid cold and damp conditions. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license.       Reforestation Advisor – Texas/South Louisiana

      The Reforestation Advisor position is responsible for managing seedling sales and customer support.

       

       

       

       

       

      • Safely complete all essential work functions in your area.
      • Promote ArborGen seedling products to forestry consultants, private forest landowners, and tree planters, with emphasis on value-based selling.
      • Basic understanding of reforestation best practices such as seedling care, seedling handling, and tree planting fundamentals.
      • General knowledge of tree improvement, forestry growth and yield concepts, sampling, forest finance, and forest soils.
      • Ability to discuss general site preparation guidelines and implications of stocking rate options as related to local forest product markets.
      • Candidate must have strong communication skills and the desire to address audiences with technical presentations both indoors and in field settings.
      • Ability to troubleshoot out-planted seedling survival or nutrition issues in a constructive manner with ArborGen personnel and clients.
      • Coordinate with nursery team to ensure on time seedling deliveries.
      • Track competitive information intelligence in region.
      • Focus on growing market share and increasing profitability.
      • Adhere to budget guidelines.
      • Forecast and execute territory sales plan and support fellow Reforestation Advisors on overall sales goal.
      • Work closely with Marketing for website enhancement, assistance with email newsletter articles, and providing field photos.

        • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry preferred, Agribusiness or related field.
        • 5 years of forestry (preferred) or related experience, ability to build on strong communication skills to leverage relationships.
        • Experience managing customer issues/CRM.
        • Necessary computer skills include: Microsoft Office Suite and SAP B1 software.

         

         

         

        • This position requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds; work may involve climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping; worker is subject to inside and outside environment, noise, vibration, working hazards, fumes, odors, dust, gasses and chemicals; normal visual acuity is required; requires hearing sufficient to perceive noises for diagnostic purposes.
        • Will require work in the field such as evaluating planting sites with customers and including seedling survival estimation by traversing reforestation sites to install and measure plots.

        Director of Finance – Ridgeville, SC

        ArborGen is a leading supplier of advanced seedling genetics to the global commercial forestry industry.  Employing state of the art technology, ArborGen is developing high-value products that significantly improve the productivity of a given acre of land by enabling our customers to grow trees that yield more wood per acre with greater consistency and quality in a shorter period of time.  We have a job opening in our Accounting and Finance function as the Director of Finance.  The primary responsibilities of this role will be financial consolidation including domestic and foreign subsidiaries, budgeting and forecasting, reporting and analysis, and preparing executive presentations. This position is a key role and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.  

         

         

         

         

         

        Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
        • Manage and oversee the annual budgeting, forecasting and long-range financial planning processes
        • Develop and maintain complex financial models to support decision making across the organization
        • Preparing board and executive level presentations

        • Work closely with Controllership to ensure accurate financial reporting

          • MBA preferred
          • 12+ years in finance, financial analysis, reporting, budgeting and forecasting
          • Extensive skills in Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, etc.), PowerBI, OneStream or other types of Business Intelligence tools utilized for financial reporting and analysis
          • Strong communication skills a must. This role will be involved in variance analysis that requires working with multiple locations and all levels of management including the board of directors.
          • Experience with a medium to large company ERP, SAP B1 strongly preferred
          • Management experience required

           

           

           

          • This is an exempt position.  Seasonal overtime required.  Minimal overnight travel.
