ArborGen’s breeding of MCP® seedlings is a process that delivers significant value to the landowner. The carefully selected elite parents, chosen for their gains in growth rate and quality traits, such as log straightness, reduced forking, and resistance to fusiform rust disease, are a testament to the benefits of our breeding process.

We bag flowers in the early spring before they bloom. Workers then inject selected elite pollen guns into each bag.

When these parents are crossed, the total genetic gain delivered is higher than in traditional orchards. Controlling the mother and father, we combine parents with complementary traits and avoid pollen dilution.

Harvest, collected, and sorted cones are processed to extract seeds for planting.
